Didcot is better known for its Steam Railway Centre and Power Station, which dominates the landscape. However Didcot has had a Rugby team since 1933 making it one of the older clubs in the area.
The club disbanded at the start of World War II and did not reform until 1955-6 and joined the Oxfordshire Union in 1977/78, following county boundary changes.
Due to the “working mans” nature of the town the club has never been able to generate the necessary funds to obtain its own pitch or club house. Partly due to the lack of facilities the club was not able to attract all players living in the town some of whom preferred to travel to neighbouring clubs with better facilities. After a long struggle the club gave in to the inevitable and withdrew from the Berks Bucks & Oxon 2 league in 2001. By the end of the season the club had disbanded and any remaining players went to play at various local clubs.
In 2002 the President of the club with the support of the RFU launched a series of meetings aimed at recruiting a committee to look at reforming the club. Over the next few months the committee spearheaded by two ex players managed to recruit enough players to form a team. The team entered the Thames Valley Invitational League for the season 2003/2004. Home games were to be played on a school pitch with the use of school changing rooms and afterwards the team enjoyed the hospitality of the local leisure centre.
The 2004/2005 season saw the club join the newly formed Berks Bucks & Oxon 2 South league. The club has enjoyed a very good season and where promoted. Also the club had some success in the county plate competition reaching the semi finals and dispatching some big local clubs along the way.
This season is looking good for the club with a possible deal with the local council to secure our own ground and also the club has confirmed a new sponsor SOLL Leisure Ltd for the season.
